The Waves Will Carry Us (人生海海) | LAU Kek-Huat | Taiwan | 2025 | 100 mins | Drama
When Ah-Yao returns to Malaysia for his father's funeral, religious authorities seize the body after discovering that his father had secretly converted to Islam. Refusing to accept the decision, Ah-Yao and his siblings set out to bring their father home. Blending dark humour and family drama with the momentum of a road movie, The Waves Will Carry Us follows a family confronting memories and histories they never fully knew. What begins as a dispute over burial becomes a journey through migration, belief, and the unfinished stories carried across generations.
